Bluegrass for Kids

Successful school tour through the Netherlands

Andy Glandt successfully toured with his children's program through the northern part of the Netherlands from May 22 to May 27. This tour included 5 schools as well as the International Rabobank Bluegrass Music Festival in Surhuisterveen and the EBMA's EWOB Festival in Voorthuizen. Thanks to Anneke de Haan who made all this possible.

Fox Tower Bluegrass Band at the A1 Festival

During their participation at the A1 Music and Dance Festival in Peterborough, England, the Fox Tower Bluegrass Band also played a concert for children.
The kids between 3 and 14 years enjoyed this interactive program very much. They asked a lot of questions and played together with the band. That was possible because the organizers of the festival provided some rhythm instuments for the children. The band members explained all the instruments and even taught the kids a German song to sing along with.

Well received program for children at the EWOB festival

During the EBMA’s EWOB 2004 festival in Voorthuizen, the Netherlands, a special program for children was held for the first time there.
Organized by Andy Glandt, Cindy Musselwhite and Norris, the kids were invited to an interactive and learning program. A lot of instruments were introduced such as guitar, banjo, fiddle, dobro, bass, autoharp, dulcimer, and mandolin.
The children learned to sing harmony to an American children's song, and a few of them were courageous enough to go in front of the audience and play either washtub bass or washboard.

The participating musicians played not just bluegrass and children's songs but showed also that you can play other kinds of music on bluegrass instruments, like Deep Purple’s 'Smoke on the water', which the audience liked very much.

Because of this success the EBMA wants to do the children’s program as a regular feature during their festival. Any advice and comments to improve this show are very welcome.

Thanks go to all participating musicians of the bands Slidekick, the Musselwhite Family, the Fox Tower Bluegrass Band, and Norris.
